Everything you need to know about commissioning custom furniture, from initial consultation through delivery and care. If you have additional questions, please reach out.
Most custom furniture projects require eight to twelve weeks from design approval to delivery. This timeline includes material sourcing, fabrication, finishing, and curing. More complex pieces or those requiring specialty materials may need additional time. Rush service is available for select designs with an expedited fee.
Pricing depends on several factors including wood species, dimensions, design complexity, finish requirements, and hardware selections. Exotic woods and intricate joinery increase costs, while simpler designs with domestic hardwoods are more accessible. We provide detailed quotes after the initial consultation so you understand exactly what you are investing in.
We primarily work with domestic hardwoods including black walnut, cherry, white oak, hard maple, and ash. These species offer excellent durability and beautiful grain patterns. We also source reclaimed wood for clients interested in sustainable options with unique character. For specific projects, we can acquire specialty woods upon request.
Consultations can occur in our Brooklyn workshop, at your home, or virtually. We discuss your vision, functional requirements, aesthetic preferences, and budget. Following this conversation, we create preliminary sketches and material samples. You review these proposals and provide feedback. We refine the design collaboratively until it perfectly captures your vision before beginning fabrication.
We require a fifty percent deposit upon design approval to secure your project timeline and purchase materials. The remaining balance is due upon delivery. We accept bank transfers, checks, and major credit cards. For larger commissions, we can arrange installment payment plans.
Hardwood furniture requires minimal maintenance. Dust regularly with a soft cloth. For oil-finished pieces, apply a thin coat of furniture oil annually to nourish the wood. Avoid harsh chemicals and excessive moisture. Use coasters and placemats to protect surfaces. We provide detailed care instructions specific to your finish choice with every delivery.
Yes, delivery and installation are included for projects within the New York metropolitan area. We personally transport and position each piece, ensuring it arrives safely and fits perfectly in your space. For clients outside this region, we arrange professional shipping with specialized furniture carriers and can coordinate with local installers.
Environmental responsibility is central to our practice. We source lumber from suppliers committed to responsible forestry management. Many of our projects incorporate reclaimed wood salvaged from old buildings and barns. Our finishing products are low-VOC and water-based when possible. We minimize waste through careful planning and donate scrap wood to local schools and maker spaces.
All furniture is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for five years from delivery. This covers structural issues and finish failures under normal use. The warranty does not cover damage from accidents, improper care, or natural wood movement due to environmental conditions. We stand behind our craftsmanship and will repair or replace any piece that fails to meet our standards.
We welcome workshop visits by appointment. Seeing our process firsthand helps clients understand the care and skill involved in each project. You can observe ongoing work, examine material samples, and discuss your ideas in person. Contact us to schedule a visit during regular business hours.
Minor adjustments can typically be accommodated in the early stages of fabrication. However, significant design changes once work has begun may require additional materials and time, which would affect the final price and timeline. This is why we invest substantial effort in the design phase to ensure alignment before beginning construction.
